We support a smooth transition by fostering a welcoming environment where children feel safe, confident, and comfortable as they adjust to their new routine.
For many children, beginning childcare is their first experience of being separated from their parents. The unfamiliar surroundings and new playmates can be daunting, and it’s natural for children to feel some anxiety. That’s why collaboration between parents and educators is essential in building strong relationships to help children feel at ease in this new setting. Every child is unique and will adjust at their own pace.
We recommend that parents bring their child to the service a few times before their official start date. Short visits where you stay with your child can boost their confidence, making the eventual separation smoother. On your child’s first official day, parents are welcome to stay until their child feels settled and comfortable being left with the educators.
Each child reacts differently to starting childcare, and the adjustment period can vary. Some children may settle in quickly, while others may take days or even weeks to feel fully comfortable. It’s common for children to feel upset around the third or fourth day of care.
Our educators use various strategies to help children settle in and are always available to discuss what might work best for your child. Parents are encouraged to call and check on their child’s progress as often as needed. Rest assured, we will keep you informed, especially if your child is finding it difficult to adjust.
